Junk 4 Junk

I used to eat junk food as a kid. My mom raised us on Wonder Bread, which turns rock hard after sitting out for only several minutes. I’ve wondered what kind of processed garbage is this? It has no nutritional value; it’s not food. I find it fascinating how much processed foods we create and consume daily.

Although Junk food is no longer something I like to consume, I’ve found a new purpose for it: art. I’ve always been attracted to repurposing industrial goods and food has become another material for me to manipulate. I started in this industry creating custom accessories with industrial goods because they were cheap and I was broke. Although I can afford better materials today, I’ve grown to love these objects and they are a part of my work.

Yes, this stuff is gross; they are materials that are overly consumed or typically thrown away, but they inspire me. Why not make them into something beautiful?
